Bernie Kosar to the Cincinnati Bengals?
Former Cleveland Browns QB Bernie Kosar could be headed back to the NFL, and his final destination might be disturbing to some fans. It is being reported that Kosar is sniffing around the NFL trying to find employment and at least one report has him possibly landing with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Kosar has been attending this week’s events at the Senior Bowl in Mobile Alabama. It is being reported that Kosar has spoken to New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Baltimore Ravens president Ozzie Newsome. It’s even possible that the former Cleveland Browns fan favorite could wind up in Miami along with Brian Daboll has landed.WKNR Radio is reporting though that Kosar is talking with the Cincinnati Bengals as well.
Now it is not expected that Kosar wants a coaching position and it’s not being reported anywhere that Kosar is looking to join a franchise in the same capacity as former QB John Elway did with the Broncos.
Plaxico Burress a member of the Cleveland Browns?
It is no secret that the Cleveland Browns could use another couple of wide receivers, but what would you think of WR Plaxico Burress joining the Cleveland Browns? Burress will be 34 next season, and is expect to be released from jail this summer in June.
Burress has been serving a jail sentence after being convicted of two felonies stemming from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Burress would have to be cleared by the league office to return to playing in the NFL and he will be a free agent. While he is expected to be released from jail on June 6 of this year, at the time of his release there might not be a new Collective Bargaining Agreement and he would not be able to sign on with a team until a new deal is reached between the players and the owners.
Burress has played for both the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the new York Giants in his NFL career. He is a massive target at 6′ 5″ 235 pounds.
So would you welcome him as a member of the Cleveland Browns in 2011?

Mike Holmgren DID talk with Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher in the coaching search
Prior to the hiring of Pat Shurmur, dozens of rumors swirled around the Cleveland Browns and who might become the next head coach. Several of those rumors centered on former head coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden and former head coach and CBS analyst, Bill Cowher.
Well, to clear up the entire hiring process and answer some questions, Browns president Mike Holmgren appeared on ESPN radio in Chicago and addressed the hiring of Pat Shurmur and Dick Jauron. You can listen to the entire interview right here.
When asked about how the Browns went about the coaching searches and what they were looking for, Holmgren responded- (as transcribed by sports talk radio interviews.com)
“Well first of all in Pat, we had a pretty extensive search. And I went and interviewed formally actually three guys. You know, I talked to Bill Cowher, I talked to Gruden, and I talked to my friends in the league and so on. It really boiled down to three guys and we hired Pat. And all three guys were tremendous. Mike Mularkey, and Perry Fewell who was the defensive coordinator with the Giants, they were great. But I hired Pat because I think we have a good young quarterback and I wanted an offensive minded head coach. It pretty much boiled down to that. And I wanted one that was familiar with the system I was familiar with. Secondly, I think he and Tom Heckert have a history with each other. So the general manager and the personnel part of that should go very smoothly, there shouldn’t be any, well you know how that can be at times. So that’s really why. Then I said in my press conference, and you’ll get a kick out of this, we all love Fritz and he was probably smiling at me for doing this, but I really hired the man. Pat Shurmur is a good man and I think he has a bright future in him. Then in Dick Jauron, Dick was on my staff way back in Green Bay, and we’ve been friends over the years and he’s got a whole bunch of experience. And I just thought it was important to get an experienced defensive coordinator because this is Pat’s first go around as a head coach, and I hope Pat would rely on Dick like I relied on Fritz when I was a young head coach. So I feel very fortunate that we got both those guys, now we’ve got to find an offensive coordinator.”
Search for new Cleveland Browns special teams coach will have to continue
Last week, the Cleveland Browns lost their highly respected special teams coach, Brad Seely after he signed with the San Francisco 49ers, and now the search for a replacement will have to continue. The Browns had requested permission from the Washington Redskins to talk with their special teams coach Danny Smith. The Browns were unable to speak with Smith after the redskins denied permission.
Smith has a contract with the redskins which is set to expire, but the Redskins have stated that they wish to sign Smith to another contract and have him remain with the organization. Smith has been a member of the Washington coaching staff since 2004.
Smith is a highly respected member of the Redskins coaching staff and well liked by the players. “He’s one of the best coaches we have period. You can’t let a guy like that get away”, said LB Lorenzo Alexander.
Cleveland still has yet to fill the position of offensive coordinator as well.
